Life is sweet!

Harper had her first real bath last week in our sink and she loved it. It was much better than the first wash cloth bath, she loved being in the warm water and getting the warm water squeezed on her head.
AAAH! Much better all warm and snug in my towel.
Harper's Pop came out several times last week to visit her. Nana was here all week helping take care of Harper. Thanks so much Nana!

Today is my first full day of taking care of Harper by myself. I have to admit I was slightly nervous about being here all day and only having a man to man defense with no teammates to help guard, BUT she is a joy to take care of and I think I'm getting this whole mommy thing!

Paw Paw's Big Visit

Paw Paw came and saw us on Sunday so we had to get ready and put on our new outfit Aunt Kim gave us. Harper loved Paw Paw and enjoyed snuggling up to Aunt Patti and of course her Gigi. Harper and her great-grandfather Paw Paw.

Paw Paw, Brett, and Harper
Sneak Preview: This is one of the pictures we took during her photo shoot with Mommy and Nana for the announcements. :)
We've got more pictures to share soon: Harper's first real bath and pictures with her Nana and Pop.
Thanks to everyone who has been so generous with bringing us dinner and helping out. A new baby is hard work, but Harper is definitely worth it and it's hard to even think about our life before her. We are so blessed to have her!

Every good and perfect gift is from above. James 1:17

My wonderful family has this waiting for me when we came home from the hospital!
Harper loves playing under the ocean. She told me the other day she really wants to visit her Aunt Carol and Uncle Ron in CA and go to the beach. I'll tell her daddy to take us! :)

Harper loves to sleep. It looks like she's praying here- she ALWAYS sleeps with her arms up by her face.

Yesterday she had her two week checkup and did great! We learned she gained back the weight she had lost, plus 2 ounces. She also has a higher pain tolerance like her mommy- they pricked her heel twice and squeezed for a test and she slept through the whole thing! (I told you she likes to sleep.) The nurse said most babies cry throughout the test (which took about 15 minutes), but she never did! I had to brag.

Rub a dub dub! It's Harper's first bath!

We decided to bathe her yesterday and boy was it an adventure! Harper did NOT like her first bath. She does however enjoy being naked, just not the whole water part... Here are some pics:

And finally now content, warm, and satisfied with her pacifier (her best friend)

We have found out so much about our girl!
1. She does not like getting dressed or diaper changes really.
2. She loves hearing her daddy's voice.
3. She loves her play yard animals.
4. She loves her GiGi and Nana (so do her parents for taking care of them too).
5. She loves being naked.
6. The girl can eat!
7. She can sleep like her mom and dad. Sometimes making the same noises and always with her hands/ arms by her face.
8. She likes the Beatles Lullaby music.
9. She loves all her soft blankets and likes to watch the fan.
10. She loves her mom and dad!

Coming home from the hospital
Medical City was awesome! Dr. B did a great job with the delivery and the staff at Medical City was great. I really, really didn't want to leave because they were so sweet and the chocolate cake was amazing! haha
But, we said goodbye to all our new friends (nurses) and left the hospital on Saturday! It has been busy busy at home, but we are so lucky to have friends and family take care of us.
Our first check up with Dr. Lestz.

Harper is awesome!

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

So this morning I've already fed, changed, loved on, and sang to our baby girl. She was actually smiling when I sang and no one ever smiles when I sing! I took a pic with my phone so I've got to figure out how to get that on here. Thanks for everyone's well wishes, presents, and visiting our new baby. We have so many pics to show her how loved she is by friends and family. Here is a pic of this morning when she was "blissed out" after being fed, changed, and don't forget my singing!

I always knew Brett would be a great father and now he gets to be one! Harper loves it when he feeds her after I've fed her, when he changes her (and he's changed her every time except this morning), when he swaddles her (it has to be a perfect swaddle), and she loves just looking up at him and watching him. However, Harper did not know that his red gnomie shirt was his favorite shirt and left a little bit of her dinner on it last night! Big Daddy Brett is now for certain Big Teddy Bear Brett- just ask him about Harper and you will see!

Happy Birthday Harper Anamarie Sims

Little change of pace for everyone this time Brett is going to write the blog. I know everyone should be scared. But the reason I am writing is first off I want to say how proud I am of my wife. She is my super woman and I am so proud of her. God has blessed me with the most wonderful wife a man could ever pray for. Lisa is doing fantastic, she was great before and during the surgery I am so proud of her strength afterwards as well. I will say this there is a reason women do this job because there is not a guy in the world that would be able to last 5 minutes with the thing women have to do. Baby Harper is fantastic she is a very healthy 10.1 pounds and 20.5 inches. That's right I said healthy, and if anyone says anything different then they can answer to me. I must say she is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen. I have seen many of Gods creations and miracles, but let me tell you this nothing has and ever will come close to this. This is truly God at work, this is the most beautiful miracle I have ever seen. I have said before but never lived it but there is nothing like falling instantly in love with someone the second you see them. I know I get teased a lot about how fast I fell in love with Lisa but this was an entirely new experience. Now as far as visitors we would love our family and friends to come see us, but please call before you come. We can only have two visitors at a time and want to make sure everyone gets to meet her. Lisa and I are very much looking forward to everyone meeting Harper Anamarie Sims, she is a gorgeous baby.

Tomorrow's the big day!

Monday, January 4, 2010
I can't believe that tomorrow we will get to meet our new baby. She has been having so much fun staying at hotel uterus that she is already 3 days past her due date! Dr. B thought we didn't have a good chance at induction so we decided to schedule a c-section for tomorrow, January 5th at 9:30am. Her birthday will be 1-5-10! Kinda fun- reminds me of the hundreds chart we use in first grade 1, 5, 10! haha. I hadn't even thought about a c-section until our last appointment when we approached the due date and she still was comfy in there. I know we will be taken care of and that everything will be ok, but since it's still surgery please pray for our family, the doctors, and our baby! Thanks for all the texts and well wishes. We will upload pics and her stats tomorrow!
Love, Lisa
